After taking a lot of time creating the bricks for the buildings I came to a reflexion: it is too time consuming even by creating simple blocks. What will happen when I will need create more advanced buildings?
That’s why the conclusion was: I need to mainly focus on system creation instead of graphical elements (at least atm).
But one of the other issue is that I need to see some graphical cool stuff in order of keeping my motivation high.
So after a few research I finally decided to buy some assets for the start. I don’t say that this will be the final render but at least I can start with something exciting and better see the results of the systems.
I finally chose Fantasy Kingdoms from Polygon:
Because the pack contains modular buildings and characters. I would be able to gives some life quite fast to the world I am currently creating.
Another element I was thinking of was the way to harvest the base ingredients for all the crafting: woods, minerals, animals…
The next reflexion was mainly for the minerals: I wanted at first the player being able to dig into the ground. I liked a lot minecrafts style games and survival games that use this feature.
Also I did not want a cubic-voxel like world but more of a “realistic” ground type:
I know there are solutions for this type of ground (there are some interesting dig solutions in the asset store). But after a lot of research I came to the conclusion that it would be difficult having this digging system with all the other systems (like multiple planets) without having implementation and saving issues.
So for the sake of the project I (sadly) removed the digging feature and instead will rely on “farming spots”. But that doesn’t mean I will not implement digging later in the project in one form or another.
